I've got a friend who is getting a new gpu and is willing to trade my 1050 ti for his Rx 480 because he will be selling it and they go for around the same price. I'm torn between keeping it or trading. I know that the 480 has a performance advantage, however the 1050 ti does not require external power, has silent fans that rarely spin up even under load, runs at around 50 under stress test, and has over clocking headroom. My card is a gigabyte 2 fan config and the 480 is the reference style blower that runs hot and audibly. I need a tie breaker.

Doesn't actually even need a tie breaker... obviously the 480 is a lot better than the 1050ti, the better performance of the 480 compensates for the loud fans and hot temperatures... But, if your gaming needs are not too much then you can keep the 1050ti but I would rather take the 480... Can't refuse that offer

RX480 beats the GTX1050Ti all day long by a margin of 50% or more. That's a sweet deal for you!

The reference blower can be tamed. Try re-applying TIM (this lowered my RX480 temps by 10C AND fan speed went down considerably). You can also do a manual undervolt (this shaved 30W off my card). You can also use power saving options like FRTC or Chill (depending on if you have a FreeSync monitor or not) to save more power.
