The fastest card i can find in my budget is..

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500405

(or something similar)

It is actually $10 over.

I play mostly single player 3rd person games with a few FPS (single player) thrown in. At this price I dont mind playing on mostly high instead of ultra. For example when i played the witcher 3 i had foliage and background characters on ultra and the rest mostly on high/medium.. some on low.. water i think. Whenever i research the card i basically find 2 things.

Videos reviews saying its basically only %5 slower than the 6GB

A bunch of people in forums/reddit talking about how "geh" 3GB is. And that it isn't even enough for right now.

No worries, with your budget, I believe that is the best card you can possibly get. As a 4gb RX 480 costs an extra $60 or so bucks on top of the 3gb 1060.
I think the 3gb model will be fine. A lot of people including myself are still using 2gb and 3gb cards, I am using a 3gb 7950 and it plays everything fine. I can't play maxed settings like i did on older games, but still getting 60fps Medium settings on the most demading titles like BF1 @ 1080p. And the 1060 3gb card is significantly more powerful than a 7950 :D

I know you are already over budget, but I will point out that the EVGA...

This is a pretty good comparison of the 1060 3gb vs 6gb.
It also shows the amount of VRAM usage in the game and the effect it has on performance. Despite the VRAM going above 3gb the 3gb card still does well in most titles.

For now, I think the 3gb card would be fine, but we just don't know how VRAM heavy games are going to be in the future and how much of an impact on performance will be when you go over that VRAM limit.

I know you are already over budget, but I will point out that the EVGA 1060 3gb SC version or ASUS Dual version is the best for the money 3gb 1060 as it has the highest clocks, with its boost clocks being 300mhz higher than the Zotac version.

Alright, thanks. I was looking for the fastest card possible for $250 CAD and i guess i found it. I will probably get the EVGA. It's 270 so i took the RAM in my cart from 3200 to 3000. heh.

Make sure your board can take RAM with that high of a frequency. Say the board is rated at 1600mhz, it will clock the RAM to 1600mhz.

Whats the rest of your build?

Good as, the 1070 is a beast. What monitor/s are you looking at.
With a 1070 I'd be looking at 1440p 60hz or 144hz 1080p ultra settings :)

I always just go with whatever is cheap with monitors/TVs. I am super picky with flaws so i end up returning and returning and returning. Over the years i have learned that i can only ever settle if i buy closest to the cheapest possible hehe
