I have the monitor and GPU plugged in and there is no input coming from the monitor. I used a VGA to DVI-D adapter and its not being picked up under anything.

Solution
Starting with the 10XX series. It seems Nvidia no longer has Analog video outputs. Older cards switched from 2 down to 1 and now we have none.

As said above you will need an Active adapter(most, but not all require power from a USB port or similar).

You can see this change by the fact that they now only have DVI-D ports(Digital only can be converted to HDMI with a passive adapter.) instead of DVI-I ports(can be converted to VGA or HDMI with a passive adapter.).

If you look at the following link you will see the different between the different DVI ports.

While I have not seen it on Nvidia cards, I did find some AMD cards that had DVI-I Ports connected as DVI-D only. This allowed passive adapters to fit, but not function.

Solution
above is correct.
You have DVI-D, not DVI-I outputs.

The VGA adapter works by connecting to the ANALOG pins. These pins only exist on the DVI-I which has two sets of pins; one for DVI (digital) and one for VGA (analog).

You require an ACTIVE (powered) adapter with a DAC (Digital to Analog Converter).

(I believe that is the right one, though it's probably a Canadian link.)

See my link to the adapter above if you missed it.

For FUTURE REFERENCE, when you talk about video flow it's best to talk about the monitor as the INPUT and the GPU as the OUTPUT.

It would be a DVI-to-VGA adapter for example not vice versa, and it's an INPUT to the monitor not "from" the monitor.
