1060 vs 1070

So looking at upgrading my gpu here in a couple months I game at 1080p 75hz I have a 1050ti so my question is should I just get a 1070 seeing how in a year or 2 it will be a 1080p card and will give me more longevity out of my system is it a good idea to just go with a 1070

Witcher 3 is among those games, that you can really tell the difference by each quality settings. At least up to all high.
I also noticed huge differences in quality settings in Skyrim (p.s. I am even pushing the quality using mods), GTA V, etc.
If you only sitting on pure or badly console ported games or games like CS:GO, there is no real graphical challenge between quality setting.
AAA games prepared for PC do have differences on graphic quality settings.

Farcry 5 comes out late feb if you like the series. In a couple of months is almost the new year. Could save up for a 1080ti. Im only guessing farcry 5 would be pretty heavy game for top cards out atm but will see.

1070 would be the way id go if you have the need to upgrade soon but a 1080ti would see you extend further into the future. There's also the price gouging going on with the 1060/1070s i hope settles by the time you consider one.

If u gonna upgrade ur monitor to a 4k or 1440p 144hz, then go for gtx 1080ti .If u plan to stick with 1080p monitor ,then grab a gtx 1070 ,Its morethan enough for 1080p gaming for couple of years .Whats your processor?

For 1080p 60Hz: GTX1060 6GB will already do the trick but there is almost no future proofing at all in my opinion. Pick this only if you have budget issue.

For 1080p 144hz or 1440p 60hz: you need at least GTX1070.

For 1440p 144hz or 4k: you need at least GTX1080TI

Yes it does! I tried running Witcher 3 with ENB mods on my old 1080 60hz monitor and I got quite really low around 40-50 fps with my GTX970, which is only slightly weaker to GTX1060.
If you aim to get high fps to make a good use of your 1080p 144hz, you need a GTX1070 a minimum.
I also tried my old GTX970 on my XB270HU and I got only around 30 fps...this is when I said...enough! I am buying that second GTX970 from ebay! I ran 2xGTX970 before I got rid of that SLI and went for a single GTX1080.
2xGTX970 should be quite near GTX1070.

No you dont, you just need to not use such high settings/mods.

I run games at 1440p 60fps just fine on my 1060 6gb.

Where is the fun with that?
GTX1060 can run Witcher on stable 60 fps @1440p only on mix between medium, high and low....no mods.

Detail level doesnt make games any more fun.

Vast majority of the time, theres practically no visual difference between medium/high/ultra. Where as there is a noticeable difference between 1080p and 1440p.
