Would I see any noticeable difference going from 3 sticks of DDR3 1066 memory to 3 sticks of DDR3 1333?
Sys specs:
Xeon W3670
X58 Chipset
525W PSU
Quatro 4000
24 GB DDR3 1066MHz (don't need that much RAM)

Solution
Not really no. You would need to get significantly faster CAS 1333 to maybe notice a difference, you probably never would notice except in synthetic benchmarks.

The Dell service manual for my PC shows both 1066 and 1333mhz. downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_dell_precision_workstation/precision-t3500_service%20manual_en-us.pdf
It lists all 6 slots populated with 4GB sticks of 1333mhz ram. I only plan on using one bank of 3 if I can find fast timings available. But I'm getting the impression there would be little to no noticeable performance improvement...

Btw (and totally off topic. But since I have a mod at my convenience ;-)...
I can't seem to get rid of the notifications above showing I still have 1 even after I have answered it. And I'm still getting ads even after I've signed in.

Difference will be slight to unnoticible, except maybe in heavily DRAM intensive apps. They are working on the site and making changes and yes you might see it show sort of a phantom notification once in awhile (and YES, it's VERY annoying) go to your user name in the upper right, click on it, and select "Tracked Threads', then just above the list of threads on the right is an option "Mark all as read" in blue, click on it and should get rid of the phantom notification. On ads, believe all users/members get them, problems with them may also pop up due to the redesign issues

Yeah should work but like I said the timings would have to be astronomically fast to make any real life performance difference. And even then... IMO not worth it.

I hope this thread is still being monitored, because I have a question. I just tried to do a little comparison testing on my own by removing the 6 sticks of 1066 MHz ECC RAM and replacing it with 2 x 2GB sticks of 1333MHz non-ECC RAM in DIMM slots 1 and 2 as shown in the service manual.
The BIOS still shows 1066MHz. And I see no way of changing it to 1333MHz. CPU-Z verified that it is indeed running at 1066. Any idea what I have to do to get 1333MHz RAM to run at 1333MHz?

As Tradesman feared the likely issue is that the Xeon W3670 is rated only for 1066mhz ram, so it just plain won't work. Sorry

Hmmm... OK. Makes sense. And the BIOS isn't sophisticated enough to allow for running it faster with an XMP OC. Thanks.

Wait. The memory controller is not on the CPU. What would the Xeon having a locked multiplier have anything to do with overclocking the RAM?

Er, the W3670 memory controller is built into the processor. And its limited to 1066.
