Looking for anyone's points to try to win me over on what I should get. I would prefer not to get a new gpu upgrade for a while so I would like to make this one count. I'm not sure if I would like to go all out and just buy a 1080 or just get a 1070. While I would like to jump on the 4k bandwagon from what I have seen the 1080 isn't exactly quote there yet and in a year or two it will most likely no longer be getting 60 fps on new games. So I am just looking for something that will kill at 1080p and possibly dabble in 1440p. Just want a few options on this as I'm really just a college student with a crappy job so it's not like I can go out and drop huge loads of money without thinking.

I would most likely have enough for both. It's just a gpu upgrade. It's just that if it's not really worth it then I will just get a 1070 and buy other things

for 1080P a gtx 1080 is overkill for 99% or users. only those who use max setting and max filtering/AA (manual not in-game settings) would a gtx 1080 be useful for at 1080P. If i still gamed at 1080P on my primary Rig I would be one of those 1%. For gaming at 4K like I do now not even 2 GTX 1080s can max all games out (assuming they support SLI) with max filtering/aa 16x by 8x (again manually set). Point being if your not a person that demands the absolutely highest settings and frame rate like myself, a GTX 1070 would be the better buy even if gaming at 2K though an argument could be made for a gtx 1080 there if you have money to burn and want 75-120FPS even without manually set filtering/AA.
