1070 Strix over 1070 Gaming X

Where I live they charge about 30$ more for the Strix.

Is there any reason to go with the Strix over the MSI Gaming X?
I really don't mind spending the extra 30$ if there's better components, longevity or reduced noise under load?? or are these two cards identical in all those aspects, apart from the Strix having a tiny bit higher boost clock from the factory?

They're not identical, the strix has 3 slightly smaller fans and a longer PCB, while the Gaming X has a wider PCB and 2 slightly larger fans. Power components on both cards are very good and so is build quality.

I'd just buy whichever you find cheaper.

I'm pretty sure all 1070/1080s are whisper quiet. I personally have the MSI 1070 and you can't even hear when the fans kick on, it's so much nicer than my 7970 I replaced it with, that thing would get quite noisy under load.

they are equal in performance however, the gaming x is in fact quieter during load

The MSI card is about 1-2 dB quieter during load and 1-2 degrees C cooler under load, most people would consider that insignificant. The only reason I purchased the ASUS card over the MSI card is because I have an ASUS motherboard. If I had an MSI motherboard then I would have purchased the MSI card. If you do not care about brand loyalty then purchase the cheaper one.

The funny thing is that so have I. I ordered the ASUS ROG GTX 1070 STRIX a few days ago to replace my MSI GTX 580 Lightning Xtreme. I have nothing bad to say about MSI, I love their products, I guess I just wanted to have matching components this time, plus I do not like how the MSI Gaming/X cards look.

yea the inside of my case looks like ass, no color matching, no brand matching, and a very ugly cpu cooler... tho i dont care about it since my case doesnt have a window and its sitting on the floor lol
