1070 vs 980ti

Solution

As the other posters have mentioned. Go with the 1070 , unless the 980Ti is quite a bit less. Besides slightly better performance and lower power usage (less power usage equals less radiant heat), the 1070 also has two more Gb of vram. By no means a deal breaker (6gb vs 8gb), but games have proven to need more and more memory as time has gone by ...
One more thought to ponder. I just recently sold my MSI GTX1070 for more then I paid for it. Seems that there are some models that are becoming somewhat scarce. Perhaps Nvidia has ceased production, or maybe MSI is just not producing that model anymore. But that makes me think maybe Nvidia is already gearing up for a new...
Due to the mining going on the 1070s are way over priced at the moment. If you need to buy a card now just get the 1080. They are 30 bucks more but way more powerful. They are just not as ideal for mining due to the power usage.

Where is this deal?

I am not entirely trusting of used hardware

True, but I still wont take the risk.

I have been looking on newegg for the cards. The 1070 run about 450-500 US and the 1080 are about 520-580US. The 980ti run about 600+US

Depending on what games and resoultion you're playing, you could bump up to a 1080. However, if you're just gaming at 1080p, the 1070 will do kindly.

I would agree that a 1080 would be overkill if you are only running 1080p but at this point a 1070 is way over priced. They used to be 300-350 but now they are 100+ more per card. I suggest the gtx1080 just because it a better card at with only a slightly higher cost. In an ideal world the GPU prices would be normal and then i would suggest a 1070.

At least sooner then expected . Might be worth waiting, unless you can score either the 980Ti , or a 1070 for a really good price . One more bit of info. I just did one of those Nvidia surveys, and several of the questions were asking how much would I pay for a new card, and what incentives would I like when purchasing a new gpu. While these are just standard marketing questions, these questions might just be related to a new release about to drop ...

He is right on all of these terms, but I think the ethermine craze is slowing down. According to one of Toms latest articles, the hype is starting to bite back... Keep your eyes open here in a few months, might be able to pick up a CHEAP 1070.
