1070ti vs 1080 amp

looking for a new card for 4k gaming
my budget is 500 dollars max
i have 2 options
1070 ti for 400 $
1080 amp for 490 $

what do u think i should go with

What are your expectations for 4k gaming? You wont be getting 60fps at high settings with either of those cards.

The 1070ti and the 1080 are very close in performance, around 5-10%. An overclocked 1070ti will perform similar to a stock 1080 FE. Considering the 1080 is about 25% more for a 5% bump in performance, the 1070 ti is a smarter buy.

you think waiting for the new generation is better option
the thing is i will have to wait a year or more if i didnt buy now
i have 1060 which cant do 4k gaming

If 4k is your goal, then I would wait or go with a 1080ti. You may be waiting a little while though. Signs point toward late August release from Nvidia and those will be FE cards. Non-reference cards wont be available for a couple months later and it will be a couple months after that till they are found in the wild at reasonable prices. So you could be waiting till November-December.

If I were you I would wait till the next card is released and see if the 1080ti prices drop similar to the 1080/1070 drop when the 1080ti was released. You may be able to find a good deal on a used 1080ti in two months as their value will drop when the next card is released. That will get you 4k @ 60fps.

I have a 1080 Ti and use a 1440p monitor. According to benchmark tests in some games, even that can struggle in some heavy GPU demanding titles at 4K (I have not tested it with a 4K monitor).

At this point, I would not buy a two year old GPU design and would wait for the GTX 1180 whose reviews are supposed to be out by the end of this month (Nvidia Founder's Edition). Aftermarket GPU partner cards (ASUS, EVGA, MSI, etc.) are supposed to be coming out in late August to early September.

Rumors are that it is expected to be more powerful than the 1080 Ti which currently are between $750-$800+ in the US market. The question is if the GTX 1180 will be priced less like the GTX 1080 is. We'll find out soon enough.
