Hi all,

My trusted 1080 died a few days ago and I need help with picking a new GPU.

Since this machine is old, the idea is to get a decent GPU and give the computer to my daughter. She doesn’t need to run anything crazy, but it would be wonderful if the replacement card would be somewhere in the similar-ish performance area as the one that died (but as cheap as possible 😀 ).

FWIW, I’m in Maryland, USA and have a MicroCenter/BestBuy close-ish (along with all the other online options - Amazon, NewEgg…)

This is the complete build (minus the GPU which is dead).

Actually the RX 6650 XT is not a bad option either. It has slightly less 2d performance than the RX 7600 but it has about 7% better 3d (Gaming) performance than the 7600 and is actually significantly cheaper so nice callout on that.

What is your maximum budget you'd want to spend towards this card?

Great question. Honestly, I have no idea, hence my comment of same-ish performance for as low as possible.

My new build will/should have RX 7800 XT which is going for $500 - hoping a 7 year old card/performance shouldn’t be more than $200-300? Open to suggestions though.

Absolutely compatible. Might not be the worst idea to make sure you have the latest motherboard BIOS installed first though which will probably mean just running off the iGPU graphics until you check that you are on the latest stable BIOS or update, then install the new graphics card.

I get it. Just throwing it out there since you were looking a lot at prices.

On the lower end then I’d look at the rx 6600 like others suggested.

Otherwise looks like as they said the rx 7600 is a good choice. You might also look just in case there’s some kind of insane special, see what the rx 6600xt and rx 6650xt are going for as they should land performance wise somewhere between a 6600 and 7600.

Thank you for the specific potential alternatives, I’ll take a look :)
