I am looking for to upgrade my current build for editing 1080p 10 bit videos from the GH5.

I do fairly heavy editing. So like two videos being overlapped one with a blurred effect on it, combined with things like color curves and noise reduction.

I use Vegas 15 and am looking for smooth playback at good auto settings up to 60fps.

My current build is
Intel Core i5 6600K 3.50 GHz
GIGABYTE Radeon R9 290X 4GB
16gb of RAM

SSDs
Samsung 850 EVO
SanDisk Ultra II SATA III 2

Should I get decent performance with this or am I doing something wrong?

Yea. I'm not familiar with Ryzen or AMD enough to give recommendations. I will say that anytime someone asks about editing video or such, my default answer is "go with the highest core count AMD you can afford, I can't tell you anything about them, but I know that the more cores you have, the better performance you'll have rendering or editing"

So more cores is the way to go. I know AMD is certainly more affordable when it comes to cores. I thought Intel cpu's are more efficient even with less cores though?
