hey guys im building a new a rig and i have already bought a 1080, im looking to do live streams with this build so i decided to go with ryzen howether the ryzen 7 is rather expensive so will it be too unbalanced with a 1600x that is oc

Solution

Yeah, I even get a few fps above most benchmarks. A few of them are total outliers but my numbers match or surpass majority of the benchmarks. I have a golden chip as well, boosts quite well on stock voltage.

The problem is what they suggest in reviews is based on 60fps "average" in limited benchmarks, they also usually just run the games' included benchmark or at most play some specific areas.
Even based on their limited game selection and benchmarks, they show that the GTX 1080 hits about 75fps average in some games 1440p...
The R7 processors aren't any faster for gaming and the R5s should be OK for streaming. TBH I'd get the 1600 instead since it comes with a stock cooler for less and you can just OC it. What kind of games and what res are you playing at? If you're at 1440p or 4k then I'd say that the 1600 and a GTX 1080 is a great combo, but if you're at 1080p 144hz I'd probably rather have a GTX 1070 and a 7700k. If you're at 1080p 60hz, then please don't buy a GTX 1080 that's way too much power and it will go to waste. Even for streaming at that res a 1600 and an RX 580 would be a great combo.

Bottlenecks arent as bad as people say they are, and I dont think you will have a problem. The 1600x is a pretty powerful CPU, so no, I dont think they are unbalanced, especially if you OC it.
Good luck

Hate to brake it to you, but there isn't such thing as 'balancing' or 'pairing' with false/misleading information. For gaming:
Choose the CPU based on your desired frame rate within your desired games. The 1600x should be fine for most games at 60hz.
Choose the GPU based on your visual quality goals (resolution, settings) at the desired frame rate.

well im gonna play at 1440p ultrawide 100hz so a 1080 should give me more than enough peformance

Well, maybe I have too high of an expectation. GTX 1080 doesn't hit 100fps in newer AAA titles 1440p, heck it even hardly hits 60fps in some newer titles on 1080p ultra. I bought the GTX 1080 thinking it is overkill for 1440p, and needless to say, I regret it now. The GTX 1080 is really fantastic for 1080p 144hz, but for 1440p 144hz it is a tad too weak unless you are mainly interested in esport titles. I would go for the 1080ti, and don't even worry about Ryzen 1600 being a bottleneck at 1440p, it can deliver 120+ fps if your GPU is capable of it so it is totally fine.

damn thats weird because the benchmarks say this thing is good for 4k so idk why you aint getting good fps are you sure that you have the good drivers and a good psu?

Also look at this 16 games average:
http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/GNnbaKWSq8Sfh4GhcDNnDf-650-80.png

Shows the GTX 1080 to average about 86fps in 1440p and 97th min frame rate of only 64fps, so doesn't even hit average 100fps in 1440p as I mentioned.

Now to the newer AAA titles, the GTX 1080 hardly even hits 60fps 1080p in Ghost Recon:Wildlands

There are more. The GTX 1080ti is fine though.
I get higher numbers than these reviews, but still in the ballpark. So in 1440p the R5 1600 is definitely fine. I would even go with Ryzen+1080ti for 1440p.

Mine is the same, recommendations are for avg 60fps gaming. If you play less demanding titles gtx 1080 can do 1440p on 144hz, otherwise you need gtx 1080ti. A gtx 1080 is good for 1080p 144hz, 1440p 60hz, and 4k console framerate. A gtx 1080ti is good for 1080p 180hz, 1440p 144hz and 4k 60hz.

Ryzen 1600x gives you 100-140fps so you can totally match it with a gtx 1080 for either 1080p 144hz or 1440p 60hz.

A Ryzen 1600x bottlenecks and is not recommened for 1080p with 1080ti (we basically know that as all ryzen reviews are with a 1080ti in 1080p to show it bottlenecks by 20fps or so), however it is completely fine for 1440p 144hz.

So 1600x+ gtx 1080 for 1080p-144hz or 1440p, and 1600x+1080ti for 1440p-144hz or 4k.
And a 7700k+gtx 1080ti for 1080p-180hz..

Agreed, Ryzen 1600X (and maybe 1600 OC) can handle 144hz at 1440p perfectly fine, unless we are talking esprot titles or old games you will be GPU limited so you will need a powerful GPU to pair with your 1600X to be able to achieve higher than 100fps.
The 1080ti is overkill for 144hz at 1080p, a GTX 1080 paired with 1600X would be better. The GTX 1080ti can work perfectly fine paired with 1600X for 1440p 144hz though, I think that is even the golden balance of budget/performance for 1440p 144hz gaming as you will hit around 100-130fps on both GPU and CPU.

To summarise , the ryzen 1600 (& you should buy the non x) is fine paired with a 1080 at resolutions above 1080p.

I'm going to argue , it absolutely will do 4k gaming if youre prepared to drop settings to around medium , lose aa (which is just not needed) & are happy with variable fps of 45-60.

A game on medium settings at 4k still looks pretty tremendous IMO.

Ryzen 5 1600x can also be paired with gtx 1080 at 1080p 144hz. The reviews that show 1600 bottlenecks for 10-20fps are pairing it with 1080ti at 1080p and getting that fps gap in very hig fps range, so the gtx 1080+1600 is perfectly fine even for 1080p 144hz. That is unless you are playing non demanding games and are pushing 160hz or above.

The difference between 7700k and Ryzen 1600 only matters in a very specific setting, where you are using a very powerful GPU like 1080ti, the refresh rate is very high, you are at 1080p and even the difference of 140fps and 155fps (rough figures) matters to you. In any other scenario a 1600 is the CPU to get, the rest of the budget is better spent on other components starting with the GPU.

Not really, the 1080 will still perform about 25% faster on either intel or Ryzen on that res. 1070 idoesn't really hit 100+fps in some of the newer games.
