1080 Ti isn't performing as well as it should

Hi, so I finally got my first build to work after switching out a faulty motherboard and it's a dozen times better than any computer I've had previously. The problem is, it doesn't seem quite as powerful as it should. I'm only running about 70 fps in Fallout 4 when most benchmarks online show double that. I'm pretty sure I have all the important drivers installed. Any ideas?

Test other games because fallout 4 is heavily cpu based. Also in this game, more than 60fps can run into animation problems > https://steamcommunity.com/app/377160/discussions/0/135513549088160818/



Would want to play in a nicer high resolution with the capable 1080ti of course but 1080p resolution wouldn't be the blame for a dramatic fps decrease though.

Yeah, I'm running it on a 1440p monitor. Windows' resource monitor shows my CPU usage being very low (maxing out around 30-40% ingame) though maximum frequency is about 100%, if that means anything.

Have a look through this review and follow the same benchmark settings and modifie the games .ini file to disable vsync, aparantly it can't be disabled in anyother way.

Because your system is new you could be worrying for nothing and just caught up in games that arent optomised well.

If you're going to compare your system to the internets, try be sure the game and system settings and speed (frequencies) are the same

Update to the latest version of Windows 10 (creators update) and install latest Nvidia drivers and then see if it runs better. Check out my thread on how I fixed my problem. I had a very similar issue. The Ryzen 7 shouldn't bottleneck your GPU. It's a very capable chip.

Oh, okay. Almost all of the cores are completely fine in games, running at 20-30%, but core 0 is the only one with high usage. Depending on the game, it hovers around 90%. Is this normal?

That's not great, your CPU is not be used efficiently. It would be worth seeing if you can find some CPU benchmarks. Many games are having patches released to better support Ryzen, don't know if anything has been done for FO4 yet.

I'll give it a shot when I get home. Those benchmarks are interesting though, I'm not sure what they are at 1440p but it still seems like my build should be performing a little better than it is. Do you recommend overclocking my CPU?
