1080 ti now or wait for 1170/80?

I found a 1080 ti for a pretty good price of $535 (used), so at that price should I wait for the rumored 2 1/2 weeks until the new cards release or should I go ahead and pull the trigger on the 1080 ti?

I would be suspicious of any used GPU if you don't know for certain it wasn't abused by overclocking or bitcoin mining.

Btw, newer generations, even if you don't go "faster", usually will support some new DirectX API which a previous generation isn't capable of supporting even if it is as fast. Plus newer generations usually take less actual power supply for any given level of performance. There is an advantage with newer generations beyond just being faster.

As soon as this next generation actually comes out you'll probably also find that used 1080Ti (and even a new one) will cost less. You only have weeks to wait, or perhaps a month or two.
Really depends. The first batch of xx70/80's will be Nvidia brand and will take a few weeks to be sold by 2nd party brands like ASUS and MSI which will have better cooling systems. Also there will be a big run on the new cards and could be tough to get a hold of for a few weeks or months at MSRP - like was the case with the 1070/80/ti in the Spring of this year. So, you might be waiting 6 months or more for the new card that you want and even then you may be paying $1000 for it. Hopefully that's not the case but it could be. So, it depends on how much you want to wait and spend for a new card and how soon you need it. The 1080 ti is still a monster card that will last you a few years. I'm waiting for a next gen card as I'm due to build a new machine in about a year or so, so I can wait. And I don't have the money. Hope this helps.

If you buy an EVGA and register it to their website, they have a trade up program, within I think 90 days you can trade up to the newest cards. Might be something to look into. They need a copy of your invoice or receipt or something like that, you pay for shipping, but you'll be able to get an upgrade. The downside right now is that the 1080ti will likely be somewhere in the same stable as the 1180/70, somewhere in the middle, not exact, but similar performance, take this with a grain of salt, I may be wrong, but the 1080 will probably start out at least as expensive as the 1080ti is right now, maybe a little lower, so a trade might be a good deal. 1180ti might take a year or more to come out... And until NVidia actually says the cards are coming out and when and we see them out, it might just be a paper launch at the end of the month...

I'm in the same boat as you. In my opinion, it would be worthwhile waiting for the new series to drop as it will restructure the price points for 10 series cards. I have decided to wait and see how good the new series cards are, look at the performance and price difference between 1080ti vs 1180/1180ti and then make a decision whether it is worth it or not. You should do the same if you can wait, also Jossrik gave some pretty decent advice up there too. Good luck!

Do you think I could buy a 1080 now and trade in for the 1180? or would it have to be a 1080 Ti traded in for an 1180. Also thanks for all the answers guys this has helped a lot.

I also just remembered that the new gen will have better support for ray tracing, which is something I definitely want to try out. I'll just wait for the 1180 and then make my decision. Thanks everyone!
