So I have an AMP extreme 1080 ti coming in and was very exited for it, but then I found out that another card (the titan xp) came out that rivals it (maybe even better than the 1080 ti). So to cut this short I was curious if its really worth it to get the titan xp over the 1080 ti since I can still cancel the shipping (or if a 1080 ti sli is more bang for my buck). Sorry if I respond late and thank you in advanced if I personally forget to do so!

Faster? Yes. Bang for the buck? Not even in the discussion. 50% higher cost for, as per the Tom's review:

Through our 10-game test suite, run at the highest detail settings available, Titan Xp averages 8%-higher frame rates than Titan X at 2560x1440 and a 9.5% improvement over its predecessor at 3840x2160.

If that extra 10% at 4k means the difference between 55 fps and 60 fps, then it might be worth it for for. If you absolutely cannot wait for the 20xx series cards to be released in a few months.

The Titan series were not made for gaming (still very good at it). On some interviews and posts nVidia said that the Titan series is not focused on gaming like the GTX1000.
The Titan XP is a very powerful GPU, but it was designed for work, now with the new AMD GPU-CPU releases getting with very good repercussions in the market, nVidia release a note and a new driver for that boost it's performance 3x (on work), and that it will work very well on gaming.
Conclusion is that I believe nVidia has been 'hiding'
Titans full potential, because there's was no competition.
GTX1080 is a fully designed for gaming and cheaper, its performance is a little bit under Titan XP, the difference it's not going to make a big difference on your game, but if you work and game on the same PC, you should consider changing to the Titan XP.

Haven't heard much on the work side of nvidia and exclusively looked at them for gaming purposes only and find that interesting, thanks for the advice and info!

Haven't even though about the next line of cards, guess we'll see how they turn out. Thanks for the info!

Hi, I know my response is a bit late on the thread, but I think that's a good thing because I've been able to sample all end-game GPUs. I run the old Titan XP (first released edition) and I can confirm that with proper configuration it runs even better than the new TitanXP. Why? Because it is fully unlocked. You can OC it to an extent that the 1080Ti and New TitanXp aren't capable. Why? I don't know, they are designed like this by nVidia I suppose (or I won the silicon lottery).
I bought my TitanXp not only for gaming (I'm also a Machine Learning engineer so I need that extra boost when I simulate my algos), but I can tell you this:
I tried all GPUs (TitanXp, 1080Ti, New TitanXp) all running at their best possible overclock profile and my findings are:
On 2560x1440 resolution, the latest titles like Ubisoft's The Division and Ghost Recon have the best FPS and overall performance on the classic first released Titan XP.
On 1080p resolution (1920x1080), it looks like the poor 1080Ti is going ahead by 1-4 fps depending on the game title.

My overall conclusion is that the new TitanXp is worse than the first released TitanXp and that 1080Ti sit somewhere in the middle if you run a poor display resolution. If you go beyond 1080p, TitanXp is the way to go.
