Before the GTX 1080 came out, I was told the GTX 980 Ti was the most powerful gaming card, even though the Titan was more expensive.

Is this always true for the Ti cards or does it depend on the year? I'm thinking of buying the 1080 Titan but if this is always true, I will wait wait and see if NVIDIA releases the 1080 Ti.

Think of performance as the same for now and compare how much you're paying to how long you're waiting. New Titan X can be yours in 1-2 months for ~$1200, 1080ti should be ~$800 in 3-6 months. If buying now and not waiting 1 + month than 1080/1070/980ti for $650/$450/$400 are great options if you go 2k/UltraWide High Hz G-sync.

4k 60hz is VERY demanding and should only be done with the fastest CPU/GPU setup or even better SLI. The main issue with gaming at 4k is 60FPS is hard to get with high settings, next issue is 4k, 60hz is your max hz where even 75hz or < is so much smoother looking and can be achieved with 2k/UltraWide resolutions.

Most Gamers will choose 2k 144hz over 4k 60hz, that's why all the high end gaming monitors are...

Since the original Titan came out, yes the subsequent Ti card in the same class has been equal to the preceding card (Titan/780Ti/Titan Black/Titan X/980Ti). There have only been two Ti cards released in the same class since the original Titan (780Ti and 980Ti), but both times they were on par for less $$ and had less VRAM. I don't expect the next Ti card to blow the next Titan card out of the water. Pay more for that level of performance first with the next Titan or wait for about the same performance in the Ti version.

Okay I'm not sure if the Ti cards are more powerful or equal to the Titan cards, but if the Titan cards have more VRAM, why aren't they more powerful?

By "the next Titan"?, do you mean the 1180 Titan or is there going to be 1080 Titan Z?

I understand but I'm just hooked on 4k and I will settle for 60fps max, and I know I can get 60fps only for some games but that's okay.
