1080 to underperforming

Just put in a new 1080 to the SC2 By EVGA.
Upgraded from a 970 also by EVGA, and have seen no real improvement, on certain titles. And on those titles, have only given me 20-30 FPS more on average. I'm no expert but that seems a little off.

I'm concerned my CPU may be bottlenecking my GPU, any insight is greatly appreciated.

Build is as follows.

ASROCK Pro4 AB350M

Ryzen 5 2400G CPU

16 gigs of DDR4 at 2132 according to CPUZID. (I think)

And my EVGA GTX 1080 ti.

Not performing very well on heaven benchmark or valley compared to the old 970 either.

Wanna eventually get the Ryzen 7 2700X anyhow.

But I was hoping to get a little more out my 1080 before then.

Also 250 gig Samsung SSD at 6g.
And a 1tb barracuda HDD.

Im afraid your cpu is bottlenecking your GPU. A gtx 1070 is fine to have with the Ryzen 5 2400G however the 1080ti will definately be bottlenecked by your CPU. Unless you are considering upgrading your cpu, there is not much you can really do about it.

Although if you are considering buying a better cpu, i can recommend you some:
Ryzen 7 1700X
Ryzen 7 1700
Ryzen 7 1800X
Ryzen 2700X
Intel i7-7700k

I had a hunch it was my CPU but I wanted some insight from some others who may be more tech savvy.

I appreciate it.

I am going to upgrade my CPU, it was my next course of action, I wanted to get the most expensive part out if the way first.

I wish I could get an i7. Unfortunately, that's not an AM4 socket I don't believe.

I will research the Ryzen 7's and pick one, thanks for your help.

I'll eventually build a i9 system for my editing PC in a few months, but the Ryzen setup will be my gaming PC for the foreseeable seeable future.

Is there a way to know which Ryzen 7 I need to buy?
Like for example I've heard with Intel if you go from say i5 to i7, you have to get the same generation.
