Hey, guys. I'm looking to upgrade my 60hz 1080p to a 1080p/1440p 144hz+. I sit about 8' from my TV stand and primarily play at night with only a backlight and corner lamp on in the room. My initial research showed me 1080p at 144hz+ is the way to go. Thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Which games do you play? What are your full system specs?

If I were in your situation, I would wonder how well I'd adjust from playing games on a TV 8' away versus a monitor 1 1/2' - 2'. I'd also wonder if my GPU could push 1440p on the specific games that I play. I generally suggest that my friends not buy any less than a 1440p 144 Hz display if they have a budget of at least $300 USD. For that money I'd get the Gigabyte M27Q (1440p/170Hz/IPS). And if I had a higher budget, I'd probably opt for a display with a LG panel in it.

It depends on how big the TV is. You can use this chart to help make a decision though:

you shouldn't notice a difference at that distance

here's a graph to show how close you need to be to see individual pixels depending on screen size and resolution (assuming you have average eyesight)

Thanks, dudes!

Looking at 32"+ as I'm on a 1080p 60hz thats 40" and would prefer the same size. The chart is nice, but recommends 720p or 480p for my distance and that won't really work for me. As of right now I sit 8' away. I play Fifa 21, Cyberpunk, some games that need decent specs while I wait for gpu prices to maybe never drop. My budget is $500 give or take, specs below.

Ryzen 5 5600x
1660 super
16gb ram

just that you won't see individual pixels, also 480p is less than half of 1080p, so I'd say you could get away with somewhere between 720 and 1080, so just stick with 1080

The 2nd video that I previously linked has a section dedicated to 32" monitors @ time stamp 11m30s.

Yeah, the m32q is one I've been eyeing. Looks great for the price. Based on the graphs and vids it looks like I won't notice a huge boost in quality if I move to 1440p given how far I'll be from the monitor
