1080p 100+hz vs 1440p 60hz - RX 580

Building a PC with an RX 580. Don't know whether to get a 1080p100+hz monitor or 1440p60hz. Which would you prefer and why?
If you have owned both please tell me your experience and which you prefer.

I went with a 1080 144hz monitor, mainly because at $210 bucks that was quite a lot cheaper at that time, and i wanted to experience something over 60hz. It does feel a tad more fluid and easier on the eyes, which i like.

Sure i bought the ASUS MG248Q Black 24" 144Hz 1ms(GTG) Adaptive-Sync (Free Sync) LCD/LED Gaming Monitor, it comes on sale once in a while for just over $200, it usually sits around $300. I am pleased with it, no issues getting it set up, and didn't take long to tune in.
