1080p 120 FPS PC Build Discussion

Hello,

I'm interested in building a decent gaming PC that will run 1080p @ 120 FPS and can stream 1080p @ 60 FPS. I have this build in mind but I wasn't sure if it would meet my standards. Could someone review and recommend upgrades or a new system? My wife may use it to edit images on adobe programs but I know AMD is a better budget build. I currently do not have a budget but I'm willing to spend what I need to in order to game/stream what I want.

That said, that wont be 120fps without reducing some settings. 120+ requires decent horsepower. You want fluid 120 youre looking at 1080 +
Forget AMD for high end GPUs, they low to mid. Their CPUs are good however.

So would you recommend I maybe get a Zotac 1080 Ti? Would everything else be able to hand the GPU? I'm new to this. I probably should've stated this in the intro.

Solid enough, but it'll depend on the titles/in-game settings whether 120FPS is a realistic goal.

A couple of points, at a glance:
1. The 1400 is $15 less than the R5 1600 - the 1600 gives you two extra cores and four extra threads.
2. The RX480 for $200 is a poor choice - especially used. An RX580 8GB, new, can be had for marginally over $200.
3. a CX450 would probably be ok, but to me, it's a little on the low side - I'd opt for the 550W variant.
4. a 240GB SSD can fill up relatively quickly and, with the cost of SSDs dropping so much, you could (should?) look for higher - especially if your wife has aims of editing etc on this system too.

You could look to 2nd Gen Ryzen, but the value proposition is even greater on 1st Gen.

A 1080. 2nd hand if you have to. Look at 580 vs 1080 benchmarks and videos. You can see what they do.

I'd avoid the S12II 520W these days though @fredfinks, that's a really dated platform and, while not "bad" by any stretch, it's a little out of place in a modern $800ish build. The CX550M I linked is only $59 to begin with, and <$40 after a rebate.

Youre right, didnt notice you upped the PSU. Can't beat it at $40.

If I decided to upgrade the GPU to a 1080 Ti would it be overkill for 1080p @ 120 FPS? and would this build be able to handle it?

Really depends on the title. A 1080TI may be necessary in some titles. A 1070TI/1080 would be more than sufficient for the vast majority of titles.

Realistically, a 1070 would be a great choice, provided you were prepared to drop some in-game settings. Exactly what, or to what presets, will vary title to title.

I'm looking to play Destiny 2 on PC now rather than console. That will be my primary game other than dabbling with some Battlefield and maybe another FPS that may come my way.

As far as a Destiny 2 goes, 1080p/Ultra could be done with a 1070:

If you dropped AA and/or AF down a little, I'd fully expect a pretty nice experience in the ~120FPS range, pretty consistently.

You're betting off searching for a title specifically, just in Google. You'll likely find a mix, from reviews/benchmarks etc, depending on the title (and age of the game)
