Okay, I am about to get a sapphire r9 285, and I was wondering whether I should buy 2 more 21 inch 1080p monitors, get a single 1440p to replace my current monitor or save for a while and get a single 24 inch 1440p and then have a 1080p on either side.

Also, if you could recommend INEXPENSIVE 1440p monitors (300-).

Thank you. Also, I play all types of games, and I program.

Solution
a single r9 285 will struggle with more than a single 1080p monitor with most current games. It's really a personal preference thing. If you have a lot of windows open at the same time the more monitors would be more productive and more immersive for games. But a good 1440p monitor will allow you to see more detail in games. Although you will have to turn details in more demanding games to medium or low to maintain any kind of playable fps with that gpu at those resolutions. For 1440p you really want an r9 290/290x or gtx 970/980.
Well it really depends on you. If you don't mind having the frames of the monitors showing up and the image being segmented by it, then dual monitors would be cheaper.

My personal preference would be to wait and get a 4k display with HDMI 2.0 or DP 1.2/1.3. I'd also go for a large display though like a 40-inch so everyon'es tastes are different.

Have you looked at the ultra wide monitors they have out now? I was looking at one from Dell at Best Buy. I think they are 21:9, which gives you quite a bit of real estate without having the monitor borders right in your view.

personally i prefer to use single monitor for gaming. but 285 is not really a good one for 1440p despite AMD said the card was geared toward 1440p. this is anandtech review for the card:

All things considered then the R9 285 is a solid card, however I remain unconvinced that AMD has equipped it with the right amount of memory. From a GPU performance perspective I feel that AMD is overshooting in promoting the R9 285 as a 2560x1440 card, as the raw performance to run at that resolution with high quality settings just isn’t there, but even as a 1080p card 2GB for $250 is tough to swallow and is made all the worse by the 3GB R9 280.
