1080p Gaming - GTX 980 TI or 1070?

I've saved a bit of money to upgrade my graphics card but I cannot decide on which one to buy.

I'm gaming with a 1080p 144hz monitor with a GTX 970.

I was leaning towards buying a GTX 1070 but I've just seen that the 980 TI has had it's price slashed drastically, and is around £30-50 cheaper than the 1070.

Although that amount of money isn't an issue, would i see such a drastic increase in performance if any if i choose to go with the 1070 over the 980 TI?

Furthermore, which is also a better future investment?

Thanks! :)

The 1070 without a doubt. While there might not be a very large performance difference today, older Nvidia cards underperform in DX12. This has been fixed in the new architecture. So, as DX12 games come...
1070 will do better.
New tech
New features
If you end up going higher than 1080p you won't have to worry about GPU upgrade.
Uses less energy.

And most importantly, remember nVidia will (probably) gimp the performance of older cards with drivers as they have done in the past.

Edit:- 1070 comes with 8GB RAM compare to 6GB on 980Ti. Its 33.33% more and will get handy for some VR action.

Plus teh new card draws less power and that means less heat and noise.
