Point I was trying to make was that it "can" look good on a good 1440p monitor. For example, My Asus PG278Q at 1080p, IMO, looks and performs better than it did on my last gaming monitor, which was a 1080p HP Pavilion that was no slouch itself. But then you get into the other side of the debate... if you were to purchase a high end 1440p monitor like that with a high price tag, then it doesn't make sense to use it at 1080p from a financial perspective.
Overall, it's agreed that native resolution results in the best overall quality. But there are definitely monitors above 1080p that can look good at that setting.
