I am trying to find all the right components for a nice gaming pc for about $1000. My only real request is that it's got an i7, 16gb RAM, 1TB harddrive (and maybe an ssd for OS.). I am hoping to run games like Alien Isolation and GTA V on Ultra and hope to get at least 60 fps. The budget does not need to include the price of OS. Thanks for all the help.

Without the OS, it is under $1000.

I chose the Xeon cause it's the same as the i7, but without the integrated graphics, which you wont use anyway and makes it cheaper. 16 GB of RAM, 1 TB HDD as you requested plus a 240 GB SSD, a gtx 970 and a tier one PSU, one of the best units out there. The system will run those 2 games with at least 60 FPS if not more, dont worry.

Solution

Pretty much this except I would go with a Phantek Enthoo Pro for the case. Never lowball on a case, it's well worth the few additional dollars.

And like Ezo said, a core i5 is perfect for you.

So if I go with this build and substitute the cpu for an i5 or xeon and go with this case
Case: Corsair SPEC-01 RED ATX Mid Tower Case ($44.99 @ Amazon)

would this work out?

Sure, the Xeon is better than the i5 and can fit your budget.

I just got finished speaking with a coworker who is going to sell to me, for a nice discount, a corsair c70 in military green, it's an ATX Mid Tower, so would that still fit all these components? This should be my last question, thanks for all the help guys!
