Hi ,
I'm looking to upgrade my current pc system and am looking to buy a new graphics card. I have a budget of about £250 tops preferably £200 and only need it to be able to run games at 1080p on maxish settings. I have very little knowledge about graphics cards so any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the useful advice however in the UK the 8gb version is close to £300 is there a big difference between that and the 4gb version if so would you recommend any other graphics cards .

i would go for gtx 1060 mid range or max ultra settings 1070 gtx... dont go with amd as they have problems with compatibility of the games... driver support is sux always beta...

Ok thanks very much I'll definitely look into this graphics card

Solution

I think currently RX580 8gb is currently my best option thank you for taking the time out to help me.

I will definitely do some more research into the 1060 range, thanks.

yeah, either a GTX 1060 6GB or an RX 580 (4gb or 8gb budget permitting) will be a fine choice for 1080p gaming. They both trade blows with one another depending on the game and graphics API in use. Avoid the cheaper 1060 3gb. while almost as fast as the 6gb version, it wont have the longevity. For instance I just upgraded from a GTX 1060 3gb because I was starting to max out the 3gb of ram on it while playing Call of Duty World War II at 1080p

fanboy huh? i sepnd my money on R9 290X sapphire tri-x giant and then got sh1t compatibility in games like Assassins creed unity, Division or watch dogs... games were stuttering, drivers were beta always... missing effects in graphics compared to nvidia card... and u talk about fan boy? blah...

You're a sample size of ONE person. Yet you go and make a blanket statement.

Drivers were NOT "always beta" (really? You have some official documentation on that?) nor were they any more problematic than Nvidia's in general. If I were to use my own experience (and again, that'd be a sample size of ONE person), I'd say that Nvidia's drivers might be SLIGHTLY more problematic.

I've used AMD cards up until this past February, and since then have been using an Nvidia GTX 1080. Both companies are on the ball with their drivers and compatibility - and my previous card (R9 285) still runs just fine on my son's PC without issue.
