1080p laptop to a 1440p ultrawide ?

I want to buy an external ultrawide monitor for my gaming pc (I didn't have my gaming pc yet). I was wondering if it was possible to run the ultrawide (1440p) from my laptop through an HDMI.

(1080p)--->hdmi--->(1440p ultrawide)
is this possible?

my laptop GPU is a Nvidia 920m 2gb, but I don't know what type of HDMI port I have. do you think I should by the ultrawide or no?
