Question 1080p monitor vs 1440p monitor + NIS ?

I have a 1080p and a 1440p monitor...GTX 1080...

Which one of these two scenarios give me more fps and by how much:?

1. Playing at 1080p on the 1080p monitor.

2. Using the 1440p monitor, setting the in game resolution to 1080p, setting the monitors resolution to 1440p in nVidia's driver software and turning NIS on.

If it's a 27" or 32" monitor, go 1440p. Use Nvidia scaling if needed, or do 1440p at medium quality. The monitor will outlast your GPU most likely, so best to be forward-thinking.
