Hello.

I am planning on buying a 1440p monitor. My question is: can i play games at 1080p on a 1440p monitor? Im not going to play all games at 1080p but maybe a couple.

Specs:
Gpu: Asus GTX 970 Strix
Cpu: i7 6700k
Well, the rest is probably not that important.

Solution
Due to nvidia's Excellent scaling on non native resolutions yes you will be perfectly fine, oc that 970 u have there and 80% of games u play will land u on 1440P unless u want that 60Fps all the time but it show be fine,

keep ur desktop on 1440p ofc and just change game settings

Ok, but would it be blurry or would it look bad?

Dont confuse urself,games and desktop apply resolutions accordingly nothing will look bad in games like i said in my previous post, just keep ur desktop on 1440p like u normally would

let me correct you.

it does look worse..

i have dual monitors, one is 1080p and one is 1440p and whenever i tried going down to 1080p the game does look worse.. significantly worse because the game stretches to fit the 1440 pixels display.
