After I get my 980 ti soon I was debating on either getting 3 new 1080p monitors or 1 new 2k monitor and I am siding with the 2k monitor but I also really want the higher refresh rate. Yes I know there are 144hrz monitors but Idk if the 980ti can pump out that much on games like bf4 so I was wondering if I can play at 1080p res on a 2k monitor if I was the extra juice for the refresh rate and if it looks any different compared to a native 1080p screen

Solution

Yes you can, but it doesn't look as good. When I've seen it it looks grainy to me. But with a 980Ti you shouldn't have to turn the resolution down it does very well at 1440p.

if your going to get a 144hz monitor, get a gsync monitor. then it wont matter what fps, it will be smooth and synced. A 1440p monitor is great if you want image quality over fluid motion, and the 980ti is great at that res. I am considering going to 1440p at some stage too, and i plan on doing it with an r9 390, which is a lot lesser than the 980ti. a single 980ti is capable of pushing 4k, with slightly lowered detail if you want to maintain high fps. At higher resolutions you dont really need aa either, and most benches at 1440 and 4k the reviewers still use AA for some reason which lowers performance a lot.

Currently no. Freesync is only supported by AMD. But Free sync is free to use so Nvidia could technically adopt and start supporting it, but I give that a snowballs chance in hell of every happening.

ok thanks i decided I am going to go for the rog swift, it has g-sync, its 27", 2k res, and 144hrz the only downside is that its a TN panel and I was hoping to try out an ips
