1080p or 1200p for gaming?

From a gaming point of view, is the small increase from 1080p to 1200p on a 24 inch monitor noticeable? Since 1080p is more widescreen oriented than 1200p, wouldn't it make sense to take the 1080p to see more in game? Or isn't there a clear cut answer on what is better and it basically all comes down to personal taste?

I can't choose between the Dell U2414H and Dell UltraSharp U2412M

I'll be playing mostly MMO's, BF4, Watch Dogs and Borderlands 2 on a GTX 780.

Any recommendations?

It is 100% down to personal preference. Some people find the bit of extra height worth it, while others prefer the wider view.

You will get answer for both and people may even start to argue over what is "better".

I would go to a local store to see if you can get an idea of what you are dealing with. I would almost have to say more new games are made with 16:9(instead of 16:10) in mind since computer screens decided to match tv's with 1080p and fullhd being such popular catch words.

Your card will have no issues with either.

I have a 24", 1200p monitor that cost a pretty penny new a few years ago, and I love it. I bought my wife a high-quality, $200 27" @ 1080p because her 22" no longer suited her eyesight. I've played the same high-resolution game on both with the same graphics card, and I will Never recommend a 1080p to someone who plays games. I'm especially disappointed in lower-resolution games because the proportioning of the pixels when the older game, that was meant for something closer to 4:3, goes wide-screen, the pixellation along the horizontal axis is horrible. If I got a 27", it would have to be At Least 1200p, and that's my recommendation. Since it's only slightly over $300 to get a 1440p, I will probably look into one of those.

I do not see how anything would get pixelated on 1920 x 1080. I mean 27 inches is large for that resolution, but if you are running at the native resolution, it should not pixelate horizontally.

Older games that do not support widescreen will stretch on either 16:9 or 16:10 screens, but you can tell your video card to scale the video to aspect ratio. This results in black bars of the left and right side of the screen, but at least you do not get any distortion.

If you do not like too wide than a 2560 x 1440 may not be right for you either since it will also be 16:9(so as wide as 1920 x 1080) vs the 16:10 you are used to.

While quite an adjustment, you may actually get used to 16:9 over time anyway.
