1080p or 1440p?

Hello there.

I recently got a new computer, and I want a new monitor to pair up with it.

I'm using my computer for coding, gaming and general internet browsing. Also some audio stuff.

I think I'd be good with a nice 1080p 60-75Hz (never tried a 144Hz before), but I use a 27" 1440p iMac at work, and it's really nice for coding.

I'd like a 1440p monitor better, but they are quite expensive where I live.

I've seen some 1080p monitors that look really nice and are on a price range that I can afford. These are Dell UltraSharp U2414H and Asus MX279H. What do you think about these? Any other suggestions?

Sorry if I didn't explained myself correctly.

Thanks!

In my experience you change your graphics card much more frequently than your monitor. So when you're making a monitor choice, get it right and get the 1440p. With a GTX 1060 it will light up and play games just fine. With your next card, even better.

I consider 1080p to be as dead as a CD now.
Obviously 1440p looks better, but there are some things to factor in.
1: You're PC is powerful enough (most are for basic computing but for other tasks like gaming you will need some beefy hardware)
2: Price (Obviously its more expensive)

1080p Pros/cons
1: They're really cheap (You can get a 24inch monitor for $100 if you're lucky)
2: Size limitations (There isn't a hardware limitation, but the higher you go the less the pixel density is and it starts looking more like 240p than 1080p when you reach higher sizes. My perfect size for 1080p is 24 in)

i5 6600K
MSI z170 Krait Gaming
16GB RAM

I don't have a GPU yet, but I'll most likely get a 1060 (Asus, probably) in the following months.

With a 1060, 1440p will be fine ONLY for basic tasks. Gaming will be limited to high settings (one less than max)
With a 1070 however, it will dominate most titles at max everything 1440p.

I would surely get the 6GB version.

Btw, I've been searching and I found a couple more monitors that look nice and are on the same price range:
BenQ BL2420PT, which is 1440p and almost the same price as the Dell, and Acer Predator GN246HL, which is 1080p 144Hz.

Which one do you think it would be a better choice? Those are both 250€, and I don't plan on spending any more than that. The BenQ monitor was the cheapest 1440p one I could find.

Also, wouldn't 60fps videos or games look bad on a 144Hz monitor? I'd like to use the monitor for everything a computer can offer, not only gaming. Also, I'd plug my PS4 on it.

I would take it if you can go with a 1070. With it, you can run 144fps/144hz/1440p which is an unbelievable gaming experience. To be honest, with a 1060 just stick to 1080p.

Thanks!
I could get a 1070. I have enough money for that, but for that gaming experience, I'd need a nice 1440p monitor which would make the price go way higher than a 1060-1080p combo., so I guess I'm gonna stick with that. Besides, I could invest the difference on some other stuff I need for my computer (for example, I need a home plug).

So, what do you think about the 1080p monitors I lited above? Do you guys have any other suggesions on nice 1080p monitors that are on the same price range as those?

Sorry if I'm asking so many questions, but it's my first "real" PC, so I want something good that will last a few years without spending everything I have on it.
