Hi. I'm wondering if it's necessary for me to buy a monitor that supports 1440p. At the moment I use one that supports 1080p. Would there be any big improvement, and how much of a performance hit would I take? Some of my specs are:

Intel Core i5-4430
R9 290
8GB RAM.

Would I still be able to play on ultra if I would go with 1440p with decent FPS?

A 1080p monitor would be better for gaming because 1440p monitors are still being developed, and tend to have lower refresh rates, and higher response times, which is a big no no for gaming. Besides, you probably won't even be able to tell the difference between the two resolutions unless you press your face against the monitor.
