1080ti and i7 8700k underperforming.

Hi! I've bought my brand new setup for about 6 weeks ago, and I noticed these problems from the start, and I have been trying to fix it ever since. In games like BF4, I will only get 55-80 FPS. (Everything maxed out, 1920x1080) Same with games like Mirror's Edge Catalyst (1920x1080).

I've also noticed that I sometimes lag on Fortnite.. Even though my FPS is around 140 (can be at 80 sometimes, and thats when the game is on medium-high).

I've run UserBenchMark where I can see that my GPU,CPU and my RAM is heavily underperforming. Between 9 - 27th percentile.

This might be the problem: I bought this computer pre-buildt with everything done. When the PC came, I also got a CD with the Motherboard drivers, and a CD with W10. So I the first thing I did was to put in the Motherboard CD and tried to download it, but it did not work. I tried like 3-4 times, same with W10. It did not work. I called the company where I bought the PC from, and they said that everything is already downloaded. And they said that I should repair W10, which I did.

But even though, can this still be a factor that my PC is underperforming somehow? If not, what can it be?

MY SPECS:

CPU: i7 8700k
GPU: GeForce GTX 1080ti 11GB Aero OC
RAM: 16GB DDR4 (Corsair VENGEANCE LPX 2666MHz)
SSD: Samsung 960 EVO (500GB)
HDD: 3TB (WD BLUE)
Motherboard: PRIME Z370-A (LGA1151)

CPU temps on load is around 65C, I have a Corsair H75, (WC) on it.
GPU tems on load: Around 73-83 C.

I did this UserBenchmark just now: http://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/9293199

A lot of these prebuilt systems have cheap PSUs that may not be able to provide stable continuous power.

What I see on your userbenchmark score is the 8700k is not holding its turbo. Userbenchmark says the trubo is 4.05ghz and the 8700k will run at 4.35ghz on all cores all day long. There are several reasons why the 8700k wont hold it's turbo. One is heat, which your temps look fine. The other is power. Some motherbaords can handle the excess TDP when the 8700k runs turbo cause the TDP goes up a good bit from 3.7 to 4.3. This is really only an issue with B360 boards and down as your z370 board should not have an issue holding the turbo. So the PSU may not be able to provide enough continuous wattage for the 8700k to hold the turbo.

Your GPU is not that far behind and the reason the scores are low is because the Aero is a lower end 1080ti and you are competing against overclocked 1080ti's. When you look at the actual fps scores compared to the other 1080ti's you are within only a few fps. If you put a small OC on the 1080ti, it will run in the 50% percentile. Make sure you have the current drivers installed on the GPU.

Did not know that there was low-end 1080ti's, haha! I checked it up on youtube ,and as you said, its only 2-8 fps off (ish). My GPU driver is up-to date. I dont know if this is the full name of it, but my PSU is this: Fractal Design EFFEKT 700W.

This is the full-pc I bought: https://www.inet.se/produkt/1512006/taurus-overkill-gtx-1080-ti

Can I check with Intel XTU if my CPU goes up to 4.3 turbo? If not, what can I do to fix this?

Fractal design makes good PSUs. I am surprised to see on in a prebuilt.

Yes, run XTU and if you are running your CPU at stock speeds it should read 4.3ghz in XTU.

What power setting are you running your computer? Go to settings/system/Power & Sleep/additional power settings/show additional plans/ and select High Performance. With that setting your 8700k should run at 4.3ghz 99% of the time.

It was already set to High Performance. This is what i got on XTU after 10 min of BF4 Campaign action: https://gyazo.com/635edd49b055ed29689da603f96afe3b

Did this Benchmark on XTU while watching Netflix (if it does any difference) https://gyazo.com/ab1e8c9adfd7a5d5367aad9015589867

And what is this? "NVIDIA Gefore GTX 1080ti // RAM: 4,00 GB ?

I would clear the CMOS on your motherboard. Take the battery out of the motherboard for about 10 seconds and then put it back in. The batter is round and about the size of a quarter. Maybe there is a setting that is causing the low boost.

If there is no change, then try updating the bios.

I don't know what the Nvidia piece is on XTU. XTU is for CPUs and it is reading the integrated graphics on the CPU, so it may be confused.

Can I update my BIOS just from using the Motherboard CD that I got with the PC?

Download from here. Any bios on the CD would be out of date.

Updatet my BioS, and it did not help. Will try to Reformat the computer (re-install W10) and see if that helps. I dont know, but it just feels like a have alot of the same drivers, and thats what making it underperform. Worth a try atleast

Thank you alot for trying to fix my problem! 😀 But sadly, Its still underperforming.. Will maybe send the PC back to the company, and make them look at it.. (Thats free)

Anyone got a solution?

I think part of the problem is that you are playing on a 1080p monitor. The 1080ti and a 8700k want at least a 1440p 144hz screen so then the GPU gets to actually use its power. That seemed to work for me after i built my new gaming PC. I noticed strange frames as well then found a good deal on a Dell 144hz G-Sync 2560x1440 monitor and now games are screaming frames and silky smooth too!! So find a good deal on a 1440p 144hz G-SYNC SCREEN!
