1080ti artifacts, rendering device has been lost and application has been blocked from accessing graphics hardware

Hi Guys,

My friends rig has been working perfectly for about week and today after a few hours its started flickering, showing artifacts and throwing up these 2 errors:

• 
  rendering device has been lost - windows popup error message
  application has been blocked from accessing graphics hardware - bottom right windows 10 notification

His MSI Afterburner is showing that the core clock and memory clock is flipping between.
Core Clock - 138 and 1518Mhz
Memory Clock - 459 and 5508Mhz

When he tries to run Overwatch he gets alot of block rectangle artifacts that move around:

I think the card is dead and should be RMA'd but is there any chance it could be something else?

You could contact gigabyte and see if there's maybe some sort of firmware update for it that would address these issues but that sounds pretty major. I'd RMA while I can.
