1080ti Power Draw

Hello all,

Just a quick question since I'm a little new to all of this.

I have an MSI Armor OC 1080ti. At load, I'm getting 80C temps at 90%fan, 1823 / 5500MHz Clocks and the Power usage varies between like 88% and 93%. Are these stats alright? And mainly, is the power usage not supposed to just be at 100? Or is this normal?

Thank you in advance.

There is no "normal" power usage since it varies significantly from card to card. One card could have a power limit of 200W, one could have a 270W power limit. Also, it depends on the games your playing, one game (even at 100% load) can pull less power than another game.

Expect 80C on an Armor card. The Armor cooler is very weak, basically nearly equal with the FE blower style coolers.

Ok got it, just wasn't sure if maybe my PSU couldn't supply the full load but then again the boost clock seems fine and GPU usage at 99% so I guess it makes sense at around 250W. I know man, I bought a prebuilt and got stiffed with the armor card lol. But its ok, I modded the front of my phanteks case for airflow and added two case fans, should be able to keep it at around 73 which I'm happy with.

I have the P400, I have two 140 Noctuas intake and 3 - 120 exhausts. 2 are thermaltakes and the other is my cpu radiator exhaust push pull. I cut a big rectangle in the front and put some mesh. Looks nice and helps a lot. You should look on mnpctech. I think they have evolv front panels modded for airflow you could buy. Might help even more if you want to lower temps more but mid 70s I’m sure is fine.

Actually tests show that even the FE blower style cooler, performed better than the MSI Armor Cooler. The MSI Armor Cooler is equivalent to having no cooler on the GPU at all.

Ahhh come on, thats exaggerative. I’m not trying to defend it too much, but with an extra case fan or two and Good airflow you can get It as low as
The 70 mark depending on your ambient room temp.

My armor is running around 72C at 70% fan. Not that bad and well within thermal limits. I’m not trying to overclock to it’s maximum for benches here. Just a normal gamer.
