Kind of stuck between the 4080 and 7900 XTX, mainly play esports titles(Valorant, LoL) and some AAA titles like MW2 and Apex. Looking to get into more single player games down the road. So far the 2 cards that I mentioned earlier seem like the best bet but I'm open to any suggestions!

For a little added context I play on a 280hz 1440p monitor(Dell AW2723DF)

I would rather get the AMD 7900 XTX instead due to it being a bit more future proof with it's 24GB VRAM as compared to 16GB on the RTX 4080. Both the cards will perform similarly in pure rasterized gaming performance, with RTX sometimes being slightly ahead, but not by a huge margin.

Do you have a compatible high quality PSU to power any of these cards ? And, what's the price difference between these 2 models where you live ?

I have an EVGA 750w at the moment and It's been pretty solid , not sure if that's cutting it close but from what I've looked up it seemed enough.

At my local Microcenter the difference is about 2-300$

going to want a min of a 850w to 1000w for the 7900xtx my 7900xtx red devil recommends a 900w ..
2 golden rules of Pc building in my opinion always over kill CPU cooling and PSU wattage !!
Couldn't agree more! How do you like your card so far?

Obviously its no 4090 but vs a 4080 its a far better card in my opinion ..
I payed $1800aud for my 6900xt red devil over 2 years ago if i get the same life span out of the 7900xtx red devil for my $2000aud cost at release i will be even more happy ..

Ive owned 3 power color red devils now 5700xt 6900xt and the 7900xtx all have been excellent hence why i keep going back to AMD and powercolor !!

The 7900xtx had a small issue a few months back where it would spike to 3k clock speed and black screen while watching youtube videos on first boot ( reset and it was fine ) but its since been working fine after a few driver updates

I get some coil whine in FFXIV / login screen ( when the fps goes crazy high ) once in game nothing !
Temps are fine case dependant but pushing the power power limit up obviously pushes the temps up even after undervolt but easily fixed with some fan curve tweaking !!

Overall im very happy with it my only complaint is i would have liked to see AMD have a better card against the 4090 but with the MCM architecture AMD has gone with this gen has put them behind BUT i expect greater things next gen !!

I think you’d be happy with the 7900xtx. I don’t have one, but I’ve got a 6700xt red devil that’s a nice card. A good friend of mine recently upgraded from a 3090 to the 7900xtx and says he’s pretty happy with it so far after owning it a few months.
