[SOLVED] 10900k vs 11900k

Looking to refresh my system. I'm rocking an i7-6700k and Premiere Pro and Cubase keep buckling under. Latency is way too high for me and I can't seem to get it lower. Also have 64GB of ram and a Nvidia 1060. I'm trying to decide if I should upgrade to the 10900k or wait for the 11900k.

I'm curious becuase the 10900k has 10 cores and the 11900k will have 8. For video encoding and music production, I know it's better to have more cores, but maybe this 10 core thing is BS.

Any thoughts?

Music production relies heavily on serial processing instead of parallel processing.
So, the higher the clock speed, the better (that’s why I went with an i7-9700K).
But still, for anything else, 10 cores are better than 8.
I’d, personally, go with the 10900K (or switch to an AMD platform).

What do you mean by latency because the core situation would be rendering and that would take minutes to hours depending on what you do and it wouldn't be called latency.

When I say latancy I speaking about audio latency.

I think it is down to the motherboard audio codec but not sure.

Yeah that's not going to be fixed by amount of cores.
It's either a driver or the way you have set up your inputs and outputs, if it's all files then as Flayed already said, check for DPC latency.

For better latency, I, personally, bought a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 2nd Gen audio interface.
I’m pleased with it.

There are plenty of good audio cards out there...

Same requirements here: Audio processing. went after all for ASUS Z490 (instead of X299) because it is said that it can host the Intel 11th gen in the future. Read somewhere the X299 is fading out, although it was my preferred option.

in a year or so, I still can switch to Intel 11th gen to get PCI 4.0

the AMD vs Intel discussion is an interesting one...current AMDs seem better suited; or it is religion, no glue.

In response to all of the above I'll just say I upgraded from the 4c/8t 7700k in late December to the 10900k. I do a mix of gaming and video work. The encoding I do is usually 2+ hour video files in Handbrake. The 7700k would take 2 hours to encode a 2 hour video file...

.... the 10900k encodes the same 2 hour video file in 30 mins.

So nah, the 10 core thing is definitely not BS... and even though my mobo says 11th gen ready I really have no interest in dropping back to 8 cores nor do I have any interest in PCI 4.0 because the price to performance just isn't there. I bought 2TB 3.0 SSDs for basically the same price that 1TB 4.0 SSDs cost.

Go with the 10900k.

So with new reports coming in that the 11900k coming out that the multicore speed is not as great as the 10900k (10850k) and that the over all speed gains not being all that much more. Is there another reason one would want to upgrade to the 11900k?

I bought my 10900k 3 months ago... 11th gen was nothing but a rumor at that point. Had I known then what I know now I'd have still bought the 10900k... and if I were looking for parts today I'd still buy the 10900k because (I haven't looked at prices) I'm assuming that the 10900k is going to cost less than the new 11th gen... and with 10 cores vs 8 cores I can't see any good reason to buy the 11900k. From what I've read so far the speed differences are minimal as you said.
