I'm trying to figure out the best disks to buy for an HP ProLiant DL380 G7. I need at least two 1TB SAS disks (10k or better), 2.5".

I got a quote from a vendor for ~650$ each.

I see some identical dell disks on amazon (brand new, from amazon prime) for about half the price $350 each.

Is it going to cause me issues using a disk like this: http://goo.gl/kEXd3m

Is it worth paying twice as much to get from a vendor? Please let me know, thanks.

Solution
Dell SAS Drives are just seagate constellation drives just branded as dell (And they show as Certified on a dell RAID card). They SHOULD work just fine.

What brand where they going to send you? Were they HP. I mean anyone would tell you get branded hard drives for you but I have seen people put HP Drives in dell servers and we also put in Seagate Constellation drives instead of dell drives because it is cheaper for some clients (These clients guy servers and storage unit for Video Survalance so they don't really need Dell branded drives just for video but they do need SAS Drives)

You should be able to use the drive without issue for the most part but if it is mission critical then get a HP drive.

I will tell you this though. We...

I will tell you this though. We have sold dozens of servers and hundreds of dell branded hard drives over the years for servers that are SAS and not one has yet to fail.

Alright thanks for the reply. I think I'm going to go with the HP branded ones since it is critical. I'd rather not take the risk to save 600 bucks. Maybe when we build some unimportant servers I can give it a shot with non branded disks.

Yea I couldn't find who makes the HP drives at all otherwise I would say get some of those. The Seagate drives though that is said are Enterprise class 6/12Gbps SAS Drives that should work perfectly as well and are a lot cheaper than branded drives but mission critical stuff it is sometimes better to spend the extra money for branded drives.
