Hi,

Just want to find out if the stock Intel fan I received with my i7 4790, socket 1150, will fit and work on a 775 motherboard?

Thanks,
Amy

Alright, I just tried and no, it doesn't fit. The hole spacing on LGA1150 is just a bit larger than 775 - looks like Intel had their information right. On that note, it's downright shameful how small this Xeon's little cooler is in comparison to the C2D's massive block of aluminum that I pulled off... I've had northbridge heatsinks that are probably more effective than this thing.

Hope that helps. :)

Well, I'm reading on Intel's website that 775 uses 72mm hole spacing while 1150 uses 75mm, but there are a lot of people around the internet saying that they are interchangeable, so I'm honestly not sure. I do have the stock cooler from my recent Xeon E3 build, though, along with a Core2 Duo motherboard, so I think I'll take five minutes to go check on that and see how it works.

LGA 1150 and according to wiki "Cooling solutions are backwards compatible with both LGA 1155 and LGA 1156 sockets, due to both having the same distance of 75 mm between each screw hole." but unfortunately i think 775 has smaller holes but measure distance of the holes if its same size as lga 1150... 75mm then u have a chance...

Thanks for the help! Yes, you are right, I managed to get hold of a 775 and the fan does seem too big for it. Can you please explain to me how to remove and replace the clips on a fan (or provide a link to a guide - I can't find one)? Is this possible? When someone installed a new CPU cooler for me, they removed 2 of the clips and I don't know how to replace them.
