I might have found my way into a major upgrade to my rig. And trying to decide to go with a 4790k and 1150 or go 5930k and 2011 v3
I understand going 2011 will be more expensive. And I know future proofing is pretty Much a joke now days. But would it be smart to go 2011 v3? where would it be going? As in for Windows 10; dx12. and Games utilizing more cores in the next few years?. Or will 2011 v3 even outlast 1150. I would think so being it's the only one utilizing the new quad channel ram. I have heard there is almost no performance increase between the two when looking from a gaming stand point. I have 2 Asus strix 970s I would be putting in the rig. Right now, price isn't an issue. Thank you.

I gamed on a 2011v3 Setup at PAX South and a LGA 1150 setup as well.

Both gave out same results because they both can handle CPU intensive games and the GPU that was used where the same.

The difference however is the RAM. The DDR4 RAM capacity and speed are higher than the LGA 1150 platform, so if you went into 3D modeling and stuff that require more RAM and faster speeds then the 2011v3 Platform wins hands down.

If what you want is sorely for gaming then the Z97(lga 1150) platform is future proofed since it can support 4th and 5th generation cores and is less expensive than the 2011v3 platform.

But since the Haswell-E(2011v3) platform are unlocked they are amazing overclockers, so they can handle beefier cards in the future.

i like the sustainability of the 1150 platform. it looks like it will be around for at least another generation. and the 2011 really has no processing advantage, its rather its pcie lanes that give it an advantage.
if you are just going with 2 cards, 1150 will be fine, even getting a 3 or 4 way sli capable motherboard is a better choice.
ddr4 just doesn't seem like a very good reason to upgrade.
