115c Mainboard temperature reading from HWMonitor?

Not really sure what the deal is here. I'm pretty sure my mainboard isn't actually at 115c, as it would've surely melted something by now.

I'm very ignorant when it comes to hardware concerns, so I haven't the slightest clue as to what could be going on here. I've tried other programs, but mostly they just have CPU/core temperature listings and nothing for the mainboard.

Everything else is at 30c or below. I have been having an issue where my CPU restarts itself during gaming, though it usually only does this about twice a day (usually not long after turning my PC on), after which it's pretty much fine. I'm going to update my BIOS later today, which I hope will take care of this issue. Will it also, maybe, correct the temperature reading HWMonitor is giving me?

Or is my mainboard really at 115c? If so, I'm pretty much boned, so I'd appreciate any assistance you guys can render.

Motherboard is a Asus Z87M-Plus, CPU is an i5 4670k, and my GPU is an Nvidia GTX 770. If you need any other info, let me know.

Solution
if the bios says nothing about it, it is possible that board does not have a temperature sensor. that is probably why hwmonitor is being strange. remember to choose best answer.

I did go into my BIOS to check the temperature, and I didn't see any temperature listing for the Mainboard, just the CPUs. They were all at 30c or lower, just as HWmonitor said. I'm guessing it does this sometimes, then? Gives spastic readings?

I hope so, anyway! Thanks for your response.

Makes sense! Thank you.

Old thread but worth posting, as I think I have a solution.

I have the exact same issue. Asus motherboard, H97-PLUS, purchased 25th July 2014. Hardware monitor is reading my motherboard temp at 115'C, all other temps normal.

I was just in the proccess of contacting Asus support when I had a thought. The motherboard comes with Asus AI Suite 3. I checked motherboard temperature there and it's a superb 27'C.

Also Speccy is reading the motherboard at the same temp as Asus AI Suite 3.

I checked the motherboard temp slightly with another method. I attached a PWM fan to one of the motherboard headers, with case open, fan held in hand. I assume if the temp was really 115'C then the fan would be maxed out. However it wasn't spinning at max, and the speed fluctuated marginally too.

Safe to say CPUID Hardware Monitor is wrong somehow on this.

Have the same problem but i can't find the temp of my MBi n AI Suite :/
