Can I plug a 115V Desktop AC power cord into a wall outlet that produces 230-250Volts? Or does the cord need to be rated to handle 230V?

Hi

Most important is the power supply rating plate
does it say 115V or 230V or auto ranging 100 to 250V

some power supplies were for one range only USA 115V or Europe 220 / 230 /240V
some have a switch which MUST be set to correct voltage first
more modern ones are auto range like most laptop power supplies

The insulation on the power cable should be fine for 230V
and is probably tested at 500V or 1000V

So as long as the product is rated to handle 115-240V the cord itself will only take through the 115 so it doesn't overload it? The power supply has a switch to set it to 240V
