Which CPU should I go with? Planning to do gaming with light programs, occasionally streaming (can easily do it on my 7700K right now.) I plan to play Fortnite, Overwatch, etc. (competitive at the most)

On Intel CPU's the F designation means it does not come with a IGPU. The K designation means it is overclockable and usally comes with higher boost. If your Planing on streaming with nvenc just get the 10400f+ Nvidia GPU. For x264 streaming the 10700k/kf or the 10850k/kf would be my choice as they are on sale atm. 5600x is a very good chip I have 2 computers using them, but unless your going to be upgrading your CPU to a 5900x or enjoy overclocking the 10400f is the better buy@145$ vs 300$.

5800x I also have one and I really dislike it, because of the way they bin the chiplets you usually get 1-2 bad cores which means they push voltage and that makes the CPU run very hot(unless you get a good bin). Also it is overpriced atm compared to other 8 cores.

My choice as I said would be the 10400f and a 3000 series GPU so you can use the updated nvenc + 30fps webcam@720p.

x264 I would take the day and drive to Microcenter and get the 10700k@250$ +Z Motherboard+240mm Radiator.
x264 medium@ 6000kbps 1080p.

If you want to do x264 slow i would suggest 10850k or 5900x

Update: Micro Center is having a sale on 10900KF for $330.
Looks like my three options are 5600X, 10900KF, and 10700K.
I'm hoping to anyways have a 3080 in the system.

My understanding by way of benchmark indicates that the 10th gen are actually stronger than 11th due to the way they handle turbo clocks. The consensus among reviewers feel this is a forthcoming microcode fix that should be implemented.
With the GPU shortage, if were to buy a new, for me, to be gaming system right this second it would be the 10850K. The Ryzen is a stronger performer by a small bit, but if your GPU goes out you have nothing.

So, the big battle here is between 5600X and 10850K. I plan to game, work just a little bit, and I want to "future-proof" as much as I can. I won't OC since I'm new to all of this, and I do not want my GPU to go out, but if it does, I would like the easiest way to fix it.

Then I would go with the 10850k, for better multicore support. Unless you are looking at a 3080/3090 class GPU, and playing 1080p, you wouldn't really see much difference.

Would this be better than a 5600X?

According to mainstream "gaming" benchmarks I would say the 5600X would be a better CPU for strictly that aspect. I feel like the multi core performance, the ever so slightly less IPC, and cost along with iGPU make it a no brainer towards Intel this moment in time. IF GPU availability and pricing were to correct tomorrow I would not feel the same.

Why would you run cards made for 1440p/4k at 1080p?
because people want to play at 240fps competitive and stream it.

also i would suggest waiting for the 5700x or 5800 non x version because these will have much better price to performance.

If you are playing fortnite/warzone, then you should go for the 10900k or 10850k because fortnite and warzone love those cpus for some reason. If it was me I would go for the 5900x if it was 499 but sadly it is not and it is not in stock right now. I myself was torn over this decision because these are all very good cpus.

what speed is your ram?

if you have 3600mhz or higher go for the 5800x

In-Between- do whatever the heck suits your budget.

if you have under 3200mhz go for a 10900k.

Thier is not much real world difference in just gaming between the 10400f and the 10900k.

Buy the 10900k for future proofing/gooddeal or because you will be doing more then just gameing at the same time.

I would not recommend a 300$/450$ 5600x/5800x over a 330$ 10900k unless your already decided on getting 5900x

When it comes to games like that, users are going to turn down eye candy, and in some cases, aspect ratio along with it. The goal being the highest possible fps lows, which the gpu doesn't play a major part in.
1080p does not require much gpu horsepower to run... or perhaps it'd be more accurate to say that today's gpus don't have to break a leg for 1080p.
1080p is already easy for today's gpus to run. Competitive settings makes the system even more cpu + ram frequency bound.
1080p 240fps does not require a big beefy gpu because those seeking max minimum fps are going to dump most of the load on the cpu + ram anyway.
Most of these new cards - 2080Ti level and higher - are completely overkill for ultra high refresh 1080p.
