12 gb installed with 16 gb 8x2 installed?

12 gb with 8.0 usable, 4099mb reserved to system. any idea why? corsair xms3 2x8Gb sticks, amd fx 6100 with an artic freezer a30 cpu cooler, 2x hd 7770s

I would start by running memtest86 from HERE to insure that both sticks are working properly and are each 8GB.

Is this a new problem, i.e. did the memory every work properly?

What motherboard and particular OS?

Mobo, CPU and model # of DRAM?

yes the memory ran perfectly until i clean installed windows about a month back, its corsair xms3 1333mhz ddr3 dual-channel memory, i have it in the pc currently where i cannot access it, mobo is gigabyte 970a-ud3 rev1.1(may be 1.0) and cpu is, as in parent post, AMD fx-6100 am3+ cpu. also, i ran memteston if with 4 passes with no errors.

Might check in MSCONFIG, under the BOOT, ADVANCED options to ensure that it's not limiting the DRAM...Also might try raising the CPU/NB voltage to about 1.2 in case MC is undervolted

it ended up being this and the board was going out, replaced it.
