12 HDD's take how much PSU ??

Anyone know how much power it takes for a HDD ?

I read that green drives take about 20 watts and standard drives can take 35 watts.

I am running SSD and velociraptors in my main rig- but I want to build a new storage server with WD black drives 2TB x 20 for storage.

Any idea how much power that really would need?

Try finding a power supply with twenty SATA power connectors on it.

You also need to take into consideration the total start-up current from the +12V and +5V rails when all of the drives start to spin up when the power to the drives is first turned on and you don't have any control over allowing a staggered start-up of each HDD.

Your bios may have an option to stagger HDD spin-up to save on needing so much extra power just to start your motors.

I have a 1200watt now. My case has enough room for it .

You don't need an additional PSU to power up 20 hard disks.
