12 mbps download speed but steam shows 1.5

So when I do the speed test for my internet connection it says that I have 12 mbps download speed but when I download games from steam it says that it is downloading with 1.5 mbps per second. Why is that ?

If Steam Downloads at 1.5MBps then its okay. What is your speedtest tells is Megabits/sec and steam download is in Megabytes/sec

It's 12MBps to your closest ISP, not the Steam servers.
I have a 50MBps connection that only downloads steam games @ 15MBps
