120 hz Question

Hey guys I am looking at potentially upgrading my display.

I am really interested in this new 120 hz technology.

I noticed that with the 120 hz monitors you dual connect with 2 DVI cables. First of all is this really neccessary? Secondly I am more interested in getting a 120 hz 32 inch 1080p HDTV for my display. Can I and do I have to dual link with this aswell, it would be HDMI.

Basically my question is if the HDTV is only connected with 1 HDMI cable are the benefits of 120 hz lost?
also if anyone has any useful tips or comments about using a HDTV for a display please post them.

Thanks!

1. Yes, it is necessary are the monitor will need to receive two 60Hz signals to emulate 120Hz. Each DVI port only operates at 60Hz. Each signal draws half the screen.

2. 120Hz tech between PC monitors and HDTV are not the same. It only has 60Hz input. The 120Hz basically means the HDTV electronics creates an interpolated frame to improve video smoothness. Meaning it receives from whatever source (Blu-Ray for example) frame #1 and frame #2, it compares the difference then creates frame #1.5 and inserts it between frames #1 and #2. Next comes frame #3. The HDTV compares frame #2 and frame #3 to create frame #2.5 and again inserts the frame.

Due to the nature of 120Hz HDTV, it creates input lag unless there is a "gamer mode" to switch back to 60Hz.

Thanks that makes sense. Its too bad they don't make HDTV's that are built to take 2 inputs. someday...
