Hi

i have a MSI z390 meg ace mobo which has total 3 m.2 slots

in M2_1 slot i have installed the WD 120gb sata m.2 ssd

in M2_2 slot i have installed the Samsung 860 evo 500gb sata m.2 ssd

now i want to install windows 10. In which drive shall I install the windows 10. So that my pc won't get throttle.

because i have read that m2_1 slot is directly accessible by cpu and m2_2 will be transit through chipset.

please help me here

Solution
And what if i will install the windows in M2_3 slot.

will there any performance difference than other M. Slots in z390 ace motherboard?
You have a 120GB SATA III drive
You have a 500GB SATA III drive.

Your motherboard has 3x M.2 ports.

-----------------
M2_1 supports up to PCIe 3.0 x4 and SATA 6Gb/s, 2242/ 2260/ 2280/ 22110 storage devices
M2_2 supports up to PCIe 3.0 x4 and SATA 6Gb/s, 2242/ 2260/ 2280 storage devices
M2_3 supports up to PCIe 3.0 x4, 2242/ 2260/ 2280 storage devices
-----------------

Only M2_1 and M2_2 can accept a SATA drive.
The M2_3 cannot use either of those drives.

Windows 10 on the 500GB.
A 120GB is on the edge of Too Small.

Everyone says "its for windows only!"
It never ends up like that.

If you use the 120GB for the OS, you'll be back in a few months wondering how to move everything to the 500GB.

Both those drives are SATA and use sata lines in the motherboard and go diretly back the the chipset sata controller just like all the other sata ports. Often, installing a Sata M2 drive will disable one or more of the normal sata ports. Check your motherboard manual for further details on this if you like.

The lines that go to the CPU are the PCIE lanes that an M2 Pcie or NVME drive would use.

Are you saying that i need to install win 10 in 500 GB m.2 ssd instead of 120gb

All have diff views. In above posts some people are saying install in 120gb instead of 500gb

So i have just simple query. Out of 2 ssd

in which i install windows 10 and in which i install the AAA games to play?

Not sure to which one i follow?

This info i know

i want to ask if i will install the windows in m2_3 slot where i have pcie 3.0x4 WD 750 black ssd.

will there be any performance difference other than SATA m.2 slot.

as someone above said m.2_3 will be accessible by cpu directly.

other m.2 slots accessible by chipset.

A PCIe/NVMe drive, in any of the 3 slots, will run faster than a SATA drive in _1 or _2.

Simply by being an NVMe drive.

Will you actually notice that performance increase? Maybe, maybe not.
Depends on what you use this system for, and how the data is arranged on your drives.

No i mean not being simply nvme drive

i m asking that m2_3 slot is directly accessible thru cpu. Does it make any difference in performance other than 2 slots which is accessible thru chipset.
