120hz display - mini-DP to HDMI?

Hi.

I have a mini-displayport output on my laptop. This is the only output port that supports 120hz, but my question is, can I use a mini-DP to HDMI cable to get true 120hz?

The mini-dp being the output of my laptop and the HDMI being the input of the monitor.

The reason for asking is that mini-dp to dual link DVI cables are super expensive :/

Uhm, possibly? But I highly doubt there's a laptop out there that could handle a 1080p, 120Hz monitor for gaming.

I have an alienware laptop, so it can handle pretty much everything.. so that isn't an issue :/
