I was wondering if 120hz monitors use the 120hz only for 3D and use 60hz in standard viewing or it it used for both 3D and standard viewing? I'm not really interested in the 3D stuff, just want the 120hz for gaming.

I've been looking at websites and reviews and can't seem to find a definate answer. Finally time to get rid of this 19" Dell P990 I've had for 12 years!

Thanks!!

Thanks for the info!

I remembered that Planar had something so I checked out their 120hz monitor (http://www.planar.com/products/flatpanel_monitors/sa2311w/). Basically says it in the opening paragraph. I wasn't planning on spending that much, but, hey, its only my eyes! Looks like this one might be the ticket.

We'll see.

New info!

I sent a message to Asus about their monitor's 120hz feature and was told that you get 120hz only in 3D, not in 2D. Scratch that off my list!

I just got off the phone with Planar about their monitor (linked above) and was told theirs run 120hz in BOTH 2d and, of course, 3D! One catch though, according to Planar, you have to make sure your video card can up to 120hz. I guess some are capped at a certain hz (?). This does ring a bell. I remember reading a video card review on Newegg stateing that the owner was disappointed because his card couldn't go over 60hz (?) to run his new monitor (3D model?).

Suggested they make it clear on their website that 120hz is capable in both 3D and 2D. The way its written it can be taken either way if you think about it. Big selling point!
